''Keystone Bituminous Coal Ass'n v. DeBenedictis'', 480 U.S. 470 (1987), is an important United States Supreme Court case interpreting the Fifth Amendment's Takings Clause. In this case, the court upheld a Pennsylvania statute which limited coal mining causing damage to buildings, dwellings and cemeteries through subsidence.
==Parties==

The plaintiff/petitioner in this action is the Keystone Light Bituminous Coal Association, an association formed by four coal companies. The defendants/respondents are the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (DER), Nicholas DeBenedictis; the Chief of the DER's Division of Mine Subsidence; and the Chief of the DER's Section on Mine Subsidence Regulation.
